I'm a high-D, high-I operator. For non-DISC people, that means I see patterns fast, make decisions fast, and move fast. I can sit in a room with a founder for 45 minutes and map out the next 18 months of their company. I can walk into a failing deal and see the three things that need to change. That part has always been easy. It's the thing I was born with.
The part I wasn't born with — and never fully developed — is patient, detail-oriented, consistent execution at scale. I can do the work. I just can't do the work and also run the strategy and also run the sales and also run the board management and also be a decent husband and father. The math never worked. It was a zero-sum game between "thinking" time and "doing" time, and the gap between what I could see and what I could execute was the real ceiling on my career.
For 25 years I hired around that gap. I built teams. I promoted great operators. I bought companies with COOs I trusted. Sometimes that worked. Sometimes the COO quit. Sometimes the team didn't scale. Sometimes the economics didn't support the hiring plan. Every operator I know has some version of this story — the gap between their vision and their bandwidth is the single biggest determinant of how much of their vision they actually ship.
The Force Multiplier formula
Here's the framework I've been running since late 2024, when I finally started getting serious about AI as an operating layer instead of a toy:
Vision × Force Multiplier = Compounded Impact
Vision alone is a whiteboard. A Force Multiplier alone is a well-configured tool that doesn't know what it's for. But Vision × Force Multiplier is the thing. It's the founder who can actually ship the roadmap in their head. It's the operator who can run six ventures without a team. It's the leader whose thinking speed finally matches their execution speed — because the bottleneck moved.
The bottleneck used to be hours. Now the bottleneck is thinking. That is an extraordinary shift, and most operators have not yet felt it in their bones.
What "1x" AI looks like (and why it's not force multiplication)
Most founders I talk to are using AI at 1x. They're using ChatGPT for the occasional email draft. They're using Claude to summarize a document. They're using Midjourney for a Twitter graphic. That's 1x. That's a slight speedup on things they would have done anyway, and it maps to maybe a 5-15% productivity gain.
1x is not force multiplication. 1x is a nicer typewriter.
Here's the test. If the AI disappeared tomorrow, would your operation fundamentally change? If the answer is no, you're at 1x. You've integrated AI as a convenience, not as a capability. You're the founder who got a faster horse instead of switching to a car, and you don't know it yet because the horse is, in fact, faster.
What 10x looks like
10x force multiplication is when AI starts doing things you literally could not do before — not "do faster," but "do at all." When the AI runs parallel to you, works while you sleep, handles the coordination and execution layers that used to require entire teams.
Here's my actual stack, not the aspirational version:
Claude Code as my operator layer. It runs the file system, reads and writes project docs, executes commands, dispatches subagents for parallel work, maintains persistent memory across sessions. This is not a chatbot. This is a CEO's office on autopilot. I tell it what I want. It does it. I come back and review.
Obsidian as my second brain, integrated with the AI layer. Every meeting, debrief, idea, research note, voice transcript — all of it lives in one graph that the AI can search and synthesize. My memory used to be the limit. Now the graph is the memory, and it doesn't forget.
HeyGen for content creation in EN/KO/ES at scale. I can publish to three languages from one recording. A task that would have required three translators, two editors, and three days of coordination now takes 20 minutes.
Scheduled agents that run while I'm asleep. Market scans. Competitor monitoring. Content research. Lead enrichment. I wake up to work that was done between midnight and 6 AM without me touching a keyboard.
The point is not any one tool. The point is that the tools, stitched together, do what used to require a team of 15. And they do it while I sleep.
I used to say "I don't have time." I don't say that anymore. Now I say "I haven't thought about it yet." That shift — from hours as the constraint to thinking as the constraint — is what force multiplication actually means.
The counterintuitive part: thinking got harder
Here's what nobody writes about. When execution gets cheap, thinking gets harder — not easier. Because now the quality of what ships is bounded entirely by the quality of what you thought. There's nowhere to hide. No "we didn't have the bandwidth." No "the team couldn't get to it." If you can think it clearly, the AI will ship it. If you can't think it clearly, the AI will ship a confused thing that looks polished and fails at scale.
So the operator skill that matters most in 2026 is not prompting. It's not tool knowledge. It's not even strategy in the traditional sense. It's the ability to form a clean, complete, operational thought and hand it to a system that will actually execute it.
That sounds simple. It isn't. Most founders can't do it. Their thinking is muddled. Their specs are half-baked. Their goals are vague. That used to be fine because the bottleneck was execution, and execution stripped out the noise. Now the bottleneck is thinking, and every bit of muddled thinking ships at scale.
The future of leadership is the same as it's ever been — clarity — but the stakes on clarity just multiplied by 10x.
Grit is no longer the moat
Here's the part that will upset some of my peers. For my entire career, grit was a competitive advantage. The willingness to work harder, longer, and through more pain than the next operator was a real moat. It's how I won the deals I won. It's how I rebuilt after the hardest stretch of my career. It's baked into my identity as a first-generation Korean American kid whose mom woke up at 4:35 AM to fold newspapers.
Grit is still important. But it is no longer a moat. Because the 25-year-old with 1/10 of my experience, who knows how to wire together Claude Code and Obsidian and a few open APIs, can now out-execute me on any tactical front where the work is legible to an AI. Grit gets you through the slog. But if the slog can be automated, grit is not the thing anymore. Judgment is the thing. Thinking is the thing. Taste is the thing.
The Peter Diamandis abundance thesis is, for once in tech history, actually coming true. The cost of execution is collapsing. What's scarce now is the judgment about what to execute.
The challenge
Where in your work are you still doing 1x what could be 10x?
Go through your calendar for last week. For every block, ask: would I still be doing this if I had a team of five operators available for free, with perfect memory, working 24/7? If the answer is no, you've identified work that should be automated — work that's eating your thinking time while adding nothing to your leverage.
Then do the actual hard thing: spend the next month getting fluent in whatever AI operating layer fits your stack. Not a tutorial. Not a YouTube video. Real, sustained, daily use. The fluency curve is 30-60 days and most operators quit on day 4 because the first week feels slower. Push through. On day 30 you're operating at a level you couldn't have imagined on day 1.
That's force multiplication. That's the back 9. Making Digital More Human™ is not just a tagline for me — it's the thesis that says the humans who learn to wield this leverage will build things the last generation couldn't. And the ones who don't will spend the next decade wondering why their competitors got so fast.
